Early Life and Career

Born in Los Angeles, California, Angelina Jolie Voight is the daughter of former actors John Voight and the late Marcheline Bertrand. Angelina Jolie’s parents separated in the year 1976, Angelina and her brother James Heaven were brought up by her mother who left her acting profession and re-located herself to Palisades, New York. Since her childhood, Angelina Jolie used to watch movies along with her mother. Because of watching movies, Angelina got inspired and influenced to acting. Angelina had never been influenced by her father. When Angelina Jolie was 11 years old, their family again relocated to Los Angeles. It was then Jolie decide to pursue her career into acting. In order to pursue career in acting, Angelina Jolie enrolled herself at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. During her course of two years of training at the institute, Angelina Jolie appeared in a number of stage productions. Jolie’s schooling was done at Beverly Hills High Schools. Jolie’s mother survived on a very modest income and this led to Jolie often wearing second hand clothes. Because of this Jolie was ragged and teased by other students at school and always felt isolated. When Jolie was 14 years of age, she dropped her acting classes and later dreamed to become a funeral director. Two years after this, she rented a house above a garage that was a few meters away form her mother’s house. On a whole Jolie’s childhood has been a rebellious period to her.

Jolie always used to blame her father about his infidelity and break-up with the family. But after some reconciliation he appeared along with Jolie in the film Lara Croft: Tomb Rider. It was in the year 2002, Jolie decide to drop her surname Voight and change her name to Angelina Jolie. Official confirmation regarding this was received on 12th September, 2002.

Early Work (1993-1997)

When Angelina Jolie was 14 years old, she started working as a fashion model. She started her career as a model by signing a contract with Finesse Model Management. Angelina started modeling both in United States and Europe, her important places of work being Los Angeles, New York and London. Angelina Jolie also worked for a number of music videos like Meat Loaf, Antonello Venditti and Lenny Kravitz. Her first role was at the age of 16 as a German dominatrix.

Angelina Jolie’s profession as a movie actress started in the year 1993. Her first role was in Cyborg2. It was actually a low budget film. After this Jolie’s acting career speeded up and she started acting in a number of films.

Angelina Jolie, as an actress won a number of awards. She received two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and an Academy Awards.
