Cameron Diaz was born in San Diego, California to father Emilio Diaz who worked for an oil company, and mother Billie, an import-export agent. Cameron Diaz’s dad is a second-generation Cuban-American and Cameron’s mom has Native American, English and German ancestry. She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School while an other celebrity rapper Snoop Dogg went there. Her nick name in school was Skeletor. This was because she was so skinny.
Career
At the tender age of 17, she began her career as a photo model. Cameron Diaz signed with top modeling agency the famous Elite Model Management. Once she graduated from high school, she did some work in Japan where she met video director Carlo de la Torre. Once Diaz was back in America, she moved in with him. During the next few years, her modeling took her all over the world doing work for some major names including Calvin Klein and Levi’s. She was also on the cover of the July 1990 issue of Seventeen magazine.
At the age of 21, Cameron Diaz auditioned for the film The Mask with Jim Carrey. Even though she lacked previous acting experience, she was cast for the role of the female lead. She started taking acting lessons right after getting the part. Over the next few years, she landed roles in low-budget movies such as The Last Supper, Feeling Minnesota, and She’s The One. Cameron entered the mainstream again with My Best Friend’s Wedding and There’s Something About Mary.
In 2001, she got nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards and the AFI Awards for Vanilla Sky. She also voiced Princess Fiona in Shrek, for which she earned $10 million. She earned $20 million for Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
Relationships
Cameron Diaz dated actor Matt Dillon for three years from 1995 to 1998. She is also the ex-fiancée of actor Jared Leto best known from 30 Seconds to Mars. They had a low-profile relationship for two years from 1998 to 2002. There had been rumors that Leto had broken up the relationship with Cameron Diaz, because he got jealous of her increasing acting popularity.
In recent years, Diaz dated former *NSYNC member Justin Timberlake, whom she met in 2003. The now former couple issued a joint media statement on January 11, 2007, announcing they had broken up.
In October 2004, Diaz and Timberlake were involved in an altercation with a paparazzo outside a hotel. When the paparazzo and another man tried to take pictures of them, the couple snatched the camera. Pictures of the incident were published in US Weekly. Representatives for the couple claimed that they were “ambushed” and that they were acting out of self-defense.
Personal life
Diaz has publicly admitted to being deeply germophobic. In 2007, she said in an interview: “I think I’ve made my peace with it.”
Cameron Diaz received “substantial” money for damages by suing American Media Incoporated, after The National Enquirer had claimed she was cheating on her boyfriend Timberlake.
Diaz has been vocal in her opposition to President George Bush. Before the 2000 election, Cameron Diaz (along with her Charlie’s Angels co-stars, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu) wore a shirt that said “I WON’T VOTE FOR A SON OF A BUSH!” while promoting Charlie’s Angels on MTV’s Total Request Live.
