Background:
Avril Lavigne was born in Canada in a place called Belleville in Ontario. Her father John was French born and mother Judy was a Franco-Ontarian. Both her parents being Catholics, Avril Lavigne too had a Catholic brought-up. Avril Lavigne’s music career was actually started at a very young age of two when she started singing with her mother in the church. At the age of five, her family moved to another place in Ontario called Nappanee.
In the year 1998, Avril Lavigne went on her first music concert tour in which she won her first singing competition along with a fellow Canadian singer named Shania Twain. When Avril Lavigne was singing at a bookstore in Kingston, Ontario, she was spotted by her first professional manager. At the Lennox Community Theatre performance Avril Lavigne was spotted by a local folk singer Steve Medd. After this, Avril Lavigne was given a chance by him to sing along with him for his song “Touch the Sky.” This was in the year 1999. This duo continued in Steve’s next two follow up albums also.
When Avril Lavigne was sixteen years old, Ken Krongard, a representative of the Arista Records, signed her up for an album. It was then Avril Lavigne released her first album.

On the 4th of June, 2002, Avril Lavigne’s music album Let Go was released in the United States. This album hit the no.2 position in the US market and was no.1 in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. After this achievement Avril Lavigne became the youngest solo singer who had a number one album in the United Kingdoms.
The year 2004 saw the release of Avril Lavigne’s second music album by name Under My Skin. She was successful in making her second album the no.1 in many countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Thailand, Hong Kong, Ireland and Japan. Almost 380,000 copies of her album were sold in the United States in the first week itself.
Later, this year i.e. 2007 saw the release of Avril Lavigne’s third album The Damn Thing. Even her third album followed the same success path as her earlier ones’ and hit the U.S. market at the no.1 position. The first single track form this album was “Girlfriend”. Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’ was the first single track to hit the Billboard Hot 100 at the no.1 position. Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’ was performed at various places including Logies in Australia. Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’ is currently available in a number of languages also.
Film Career:
An animated film Over the Hedge was Avril Lavigne’s first debut film. She worked with other famous stars like Garry Shandling, Nick Nolte, Steve Carell, Bruce Willis and William Shatner etc. Avril Lavigne is also being featured in Richard Gere film The Flock in which Avril Lavigne is the girlfriend of a crime suspect.
