Like A Virgin Video And Lyrics

 
“Like a Virgin” is the first No. 1 single from American singer/songwriter Madonna that hit the top of the charts at the end of 1984/beginning of 1985. “Like a Virgin” is also the first single from Madonna’s 2nd album by the same name. It also on, in a slightly remixed from, her best-selling 1990 “best of” album The Immaculate Collection.

Madonna wears a wedding dress in the music video, which was directed by Mary Lambert.

“Like a Virgin” was recognized by both Rolling Stone and MTV in the year 2000 as the number 4 song on their list of the “100 Greatest Pop Songs”.

The hook has been accused if being similar to “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson. The truth is that the hooks of both songs borrow greatly from The Four Tops’ (who the hell are they?) “I Can’t Help Myself” (never heard of it either). Madonna basically acknowledged the common traits between her hit and those of Jackson and The Four Tops by incorporating elements of those into her live performances of “Like A Virgin”.

Madonna performed “Like a Virgin” at the very first MTV Video Music Awards show in 1984.

Britney And Madonna Kiss At The MTV Music Video Awards With Christina

The year is 2003. Madonna is promoting a new album, Britney Spears is still the next Madonna at the top of her game and Christina Aguilera is going through her “skanky ho” phase. They come up with the idea to do something truly shocking for the MTV Video Awards.

They decide to do a version of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”, which would morph into her new song Hollywood. First Britney comes out, veiled in a white wedding dress, singing “Like a virgin…”, down a flight of white stairs. You can tell that she is not lip syncing, because it’s not perfect, but some might be surprised to learn that she can really sing. That is until Christina Aguilera enters the same way. Christina also starts singing before flipping back her veil, but the crowd roars recognizing her voice right away. Even a few notes are enough to blow Britney right out of the water (it’s even worse with Madonna - in general and especially that night). The two women square off and head to the opposite sides of the stage. This is when the legend, Madonna, enters in a tuxedo and a stovepipe hat. It’s not sure what’s going on, but by as much as Christina was above and beyond of what one would expect of a pop diva, Madonna was that much below it. The notes were all over the place. She even looked embarrassed, it seemed. Maybe, she was nervous about what was about to go down. Perhaps not. Madonna is not a stranger to controversy, nor to being a mediocre singer, so it’s probably the latter. But no one will remember that, and it’s because of what happens next. The divas dance around a little bit, act out Madonna being the groom and Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera being the brides. In the meantime, the very smart and sneaky director of the live show strategically places a camera on Justin Timberlake (his breakup with Britney is still pretty fresh). He knows that it’s unusual just to single him out like that, but he is nonetheless clueless. Then finally Madonna, Britney and Christina pause for a second, Madonna leans over to Britney standing on her right and they kiss each other with tongues and everything. The crowd goes wild, as, I am sure, everybody watching at home. So much so that they miss that Christina gets the same treatment, partly because they switch to the camera on Justin Timberlake who appears thoroughly stunned. He he. Cudos to the director. It’s not that the kiss was a waste on Christina, because I could watch her make out with anything just about all day, but at that point she had been trying to be a slut for so long and so hard that there was no shock value there.

Of course, the whole thing was all over the news. Some were crazy about it, while others, outraged.

Madonna is still doing all right, but she has been having trouble scoring a major hit lately, but her shows are still sold out. Christina is still very active on the pop scene; and she is doing very well, thank you for asking. Britney Spears, on the other hand, is constantly in the tabloids, but not because of what happened at the MTV Music Video Awards, but rather due to her screwed-up marriage to Kevin Featherline with whom she had two kids like two months apart. She acts erratic, she is out of shape and people are wondering if her carrier took a permanent blow.

Madonna - Biography

Madonna was born Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie on August 16, 1958. She is recognized for her stage performances and ambitious music videos as well as using sexual, political and religious themes in her work.

The Guinness World Records lists Madonna as the most successful female recording artist of all time. It is estimated that her worldwide album sales are in the excess of 175 million and 75 million singles in addition; Madonna is the highest earning female recording artist of all time according to both the 2007 Guinness Book of Records, and Billboard Magazine. Her net worth was estimated at $325 million. In addition, Madonna holds the record for the top-grossing concert tour by a female artist.

Early life

Madonna Louise Ciccone was born in Bay City, Michigan. She was the third in the line of eight children. Her father is Silvio “Tony” Ciccone, a first generation Italian-American Chrysler engineer, and Madonna Louise Fortin, who was of French Canadian descent.

She was raised as Catholic in the Detroit suburbs of Pontiac and Avon Township. Madonna’s mother died of breast cancer at age 30 in 1963. Madonna’s father later married the family housekeeper, Joan Gustafson. They had two children together.

Professional career

Madonna’s debut album, Madonna, a collection of pop songs, was primarily produced by Reggie Lucas. After initial production on the album was completed, Madonna took the record to her boyfriend, John “Jellybean” Benitez, who did some more finetuning on it. As an album, it reached number eight on the U.S. charts; and contained three successful Top 100 singles, “Lucky Star”, “Holiday” and “Borderline”. At the time of its release, Madonna sold three million copies worldwide, one million of those in the U.S.

Madonna’s follow up album, Like a Virgin, was an international success, and became her first number one album on the U.S. charts. The title song Like a Virgin reached number one in the U.S. and stayed there for over six weeks. The album sold over 12 million copies at the time of its release and currently stands at 19 million plus copies worldwide and produced four top-five singles in the U.S. and the UK.

In early ‘89, Madonna signed an endorsement deal Pepsi, which would debut her new song, “Like a Prayer,” in a commercial in which Madonna would also appear. Madonna made a separate music video which Pepsi had nothing to do with. Although the commercial itself was not controversial, the video for “Like a Prayer” caused a major uproar. The video premiered on MTV and featured many Catholic symbols. The video showed a black man who comes to the aid of a white lady being murdered by white men and as a consequence he is falsely accused of the crime. Madonna’s character witnesses the crime, secures his release. Although the video’s original intent was to denounce racism, Madonna was criticized for her use of burning crosses and “making out” with Jesus. Pepsi was bombarded with complaints and boycotts.

In 1996, Madonna’s most critically successful film, Evita, hit the movie theatres. The movie’s soundtrack became her 12th platinum album and produced two hit singles, “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and “You Must Love Me.” “You Must Love Me” won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song From a Motion Picture the following year. Madonna herself also won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy but failed to do the same at the Oscars.

Madonna’s seventh studio album, 1998’s Ray of Light, featured Eastern sounds, down-tempo, electronic instrumentation, strings by Craig Armstrong and a strong techno-rave flavor. The album reached number 2 on the U.S. charts; and since its release, has been certified 4-times platinum.[10]

Madonna’s 9th studio album, American Life, received mixed reviews. Arguably her most daring and musically extreme album, American Life presented a darker and more serious side of Madonna.

The music video for the first single, “American Life”, caused controversy in the U.S., because it strong scenes depicting war, explosions, and blood. The the previous day the video was to air on European television, Madonna pulled it and released instead an edited version, which showed her singing in front of flags from around the world.
