Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22, 1984. Her first major role was in The Horse Whisperer, then appeared in Ghost World, Lost in Translation.

Early life

Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City to father Karsten Johansson who is a Danish-born and an architect and to mother Melanie Sloan who is a producer and comes from a Jewish American family of Polish Jewish descent from the Bronx. Johansson’s parents first met in Denmark. Johansson has an older sibling, a sister, Vanessa, who is also an actress; an older brother, Adrian; a twin brother, Hunter, who is also an actor. In addition, she also has a half-brother from her dad’s next marriage. His name is Christian.

Johansson’s family was rather poor when she was growing up. She began her actor’s training by attending and graduating from Professional Children’s School in Manhattan in the year of 2002.

Acting career

Scarlett Johansson started her acting as a child, making her film debut in the movie North in 1994. After appearing in several films during the late 1990s, Johansson gained acclaim for her performance in 1998’s The Horse Whisperer and 2001’s Ghost World.

She won prize for her performance as Charlotte in 2003’s Lost in Translation and she was nominated for two best actress awards at the Golden Globes, for Girl with a Pearl Earring and Lost in Translation.

Johansson was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in June of 2004.[5] In the same year, she starred in the films The Perfect Score, In Good Company and A Love Song for Bobby Long, the last of which earned her a third Golden Globe Award nomination. She was supposed to be in the film Mission: Impossible III, but was not officially cast because of scheduling conflicts, although she may have had a run in with Tom Cruise.

In 2005, Scarlett Johansson starred with Ewan McGregor in The Island, her first action/sci-fi film. In the same year, she starred in the Woody Allen drama Match Point.

Johansson’s next movie, Scoop, another collaboration with director Woody Allen, was released in 2006. The same year, she appeared in director Brian De Palma’s The Black Dahlia.

In January, 2006, Scarlett Johansson hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time. Also in 2006, Johansson starred in a short film directed by Bennett Miller and set to Bob Dylan’s “When the Deal Goes Down…,” released to promote Dylan’s album, Modern Times.[10] Johansson’s thriller The Prestige, opened on October 20, 2006.

She made a return appearance on Saturday Night Live April 21, 2007, during which she demonstrated her singing ability by duetting with Andy Samberg for a version of “Something to Talk About”.

Personal life

Johansson is a registerd Democrat and campaigned for Kerry/Edwards ticket in the 2004 presidential election. She is also not a big fan of George W. Bush.

Scarlett Johansson has said that she is attracted to older men, and dating anyone under the age of thirty was unlikely. Some of the men she has been known to be involved with are Derek Jeter, Benicio Del Toro, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake and most notably her The Black Dahlia co-star Josh Hartnett. They were together for about two years until the end of 2006, with Josh citing their busy professional lives as the reason for the break up.

Johansson has said publicly that she does not believe in monogamy or monandry, but she does not consider herself promiscuous and she is convinced that she works “really hard” when she is in a relationship “to make it work in a monogamous way.” She gets tested for HIV twice a year.

Scarlett Johansson has admitted to be a huge fan of cheese, saying: “My greatest vice is cheese. Nothing else reigns over my life.” She has blamed the media and Hollywood for promoting an image that results in unhealthy diets and eating disorders among females, saying that she thinks “that being ultra-thin is not sexy at all.
