Born on December 18th, 1980, Christina Maria Aguilera is a well know American pop singer and song writer. Her first album by her own name Christina Aguilera that was released in the year 1999 was a big hit commercially. This led to Christina Aguilera rising to fame and prominence.
 

Early Life and Career:

Born in the Staten Island, New York, Aguilera lived with her parents, her father being an U.S. army sergeant and her mother being a Spanish teacher. Until the age of 7, she lived with her parents. Later when her parents separated Aguilera was taken by her mother to her grandparents’ house. Becoming a singer has been her aspiration since childhood. Aguilera attended the North Alleghany School District that was near the Pittsburg suburb of Wexford, Pennsylvania.

Aguilera was greatly influenced by some of the famous personalities in the music world like Madonna, Whitney Houston, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. The musical album The Sound of Music is said to be an early inspiration for her singing and performing.

In the year 1998, Aguilera sang a song namely the High E in full voice on a cover of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You”. It is believed that Christina Aguilera recorded that song with an old recorder in her bathroom. It was after this incident she got selected for recording the song Reflection for the Disney Production of Mulan. The result of her recording led to the signing of a contract with RCA Records during the same week.

Christina Aguilera’s debut album on her own name hit the Billboard 200 on the top most position. It also hit the Canadian album charts and made a record by selling 8 million copies in the U.S. and also sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

In the year 2000, Aguilera released her first Spanish album following the Latin trend prevalent then. The album was named as Mi Reflejo. This album peaked at#27 on the Billboard 200. it also hit the Latin album charts by the #1 position. The same album won Aguilera a Latin Grammy Award under the “Best Female Pop Vocal Album” category. Aguilera has also got the fame of winning the World music Award as she was the best selling Latin singer of the year 2000. Late in the same year a Christian album was released by her by the name My kind of Christmas which hit the Billboard 200 on #28. It sold over 1.5 million copies all over the world. The album was also platinum rated.

Apart from doing music album, in the year 2006, Aguilera signed a contract to promote the new Sony Ericsson Walkmen Phone series with the European Cell phone operator Orange.

Throughout her entire life as a pop singer, Christina Aguilera has been involved in some kind of charity works all through her career. A letter was written to the South Korean government by Christina Aguilera asking to stop its alleged killing of dogs for the purpose of food.

Christina Aguilera has also been referred to as “the voice of her generation” as she was known for her strong vocals.
