Drew Barrymore was born in Culver City, California to father John Drew Barrymore and mother Ildiko Jaid Barrymore. Her parents got a divorce shortly after she was born. Drew has a half-brother named John Blyth Barrymore who is also an actor, as well as two half-sisters Blyth Dolores Barrymore and Brahma (Jessica) Blyth Barrymore. Blyth is certainly a popular name in her family or her parents aren’t very creative.
Drew was born into the profession of acting, coming from a long line of acting talent going back as far as 200 years
Drew Barrymore’s career started when she was an 11 month old baby, auditioning for a dog food commercial. When she was bitten by the dog on the set, she ended up laughing instead of crying and that landed her the job. Her first role in a major motion picture was in Altered States in 1980 followed by a year later by the role of Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Drew received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in ‘84 for her role in Irreconcilable Differences.
Fame took a toll. She was a regular at Studio 54 at the age of 9 smoking and drinking. She was smoking marijuana by the age of 10 and snorting coke at 10. She went to rehab at 13 then again at 14. Drew later described this period of her life in her biography Little Girl Lost.
Drew Barrymore made a successful comeback in the 1996 horror film Scream. Barrymore has continued to be a major box office draw. She seemed to have a knack for romantic comedies, such as Wishful Thinking (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), Home Fries (1998), Never Been Kissed (1999), 50 First Dates (2004), and Fever Pitch (2005). She served as the producer for several films such as Charlie’s Angels in 2000. After Charlie’s Angels, Drew had a dramatic role in Riding in Cars with Boys of 2001, where she played the role of a teenage mother in a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father. In the year of 2003, she came back as Dylan Sanders in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
